The steppe plains host a high biological richness, usually linked to the agricultural and livestock farming that is developed in these places, which is in general decline, as its biodiversity. The rain-fed cereal crops, interspersed with patches of lavender, gorse and wild olive, are interrupted by the willows on the river banks. An agricultural system where the symbiosis of human activity and wildlife makes possible the survival of large populations of steppe birds like black-bellied sandgrouse, sandgrouse, collared pratincole, bustards, little bustards, Eurasian stone-curlew, the Montagu’s harriers or lesser kestrel.
