The black stork (Ciconia nigra) is a bird species with very small populations in the Iberian Peninsula and it is listed as a vulnerable species in the last version of the “Atlas and Red Book of Breeding Birds of Spain”, published by the Ministry of Environment.

Black stork has breeding populations within the area of development of this project. The southwestern of Salamanca province and Extremadura northern end are considered as one of the most important areas for this species in the Iberian Peninsula.
