Demographic history:

The border (la Raia, in Portuguese) has traditionally been a territory little exploited for ecological, geographical, climatic, historical and socioeconomic reasons. Distant from important demographic and economic centers, has historically had an intense livestock farming.

Currently, both in Spain as in Portugal, the whole area of activity has a negative population trend, characterized by a steady loss of population. Demographic indicators such as the natural increase are negative and highlight the problem of depopulation in the study area.

Since 1950 a continuous decrease in the municipalities that comprise the area of operation has been found.
